TIRTL Principle of Operation

TIRTL can detect direction and lane of vehicles
TIRTL can detect direction and lane of vehicles

TIRTL consists of transmitter and receiver units on opposite sides of the carriageway and uses two parallel and two cross beams below axle height to measure and classify passing vehicles.

The system has a speed measurement accuracy with less than 1% error at up to 250km/hr and precisely measures the number of axles, axle separation, wheel width and the front to back wheel width ratio to classify vehicles.

  • Infra-red light detection system
  • Non-invasive and hidden from passing vehicles
  • Vehicle classification based on axle counts and separation
  • Speed and lane measurement based on parallel & cross beam breaks
  • Traffic data logging including count, classification, speed, direction, lane, wheel base, date and time
  • Available in Fixed or Portable configurations with fast and easy installation
  • Ultra-low power consumption for battery operation
  • Remote operation, monitoring & data transfer via either Cellular or Network communication
  • Installation setup and data transfer via a laptop
  • TIRTLsoft an intuitive GUI for the TIRTL.

TIRTL Applications

TIRTL has numerous applications, some of which are as follows:

  • Advanced traffic detection including vehicle counting, classification and speed measurement
  • Speed and red-light enforcement (connected to a camera)
  • Point-to-Point speed and travel time enforcement
  • Secondary speed verification (verifing primary speed detection sites enforcement)
  • Tolling detection or auditing as the primary or secondary count and classification unit
  • WIM system support providing vehicle count and classification data, communications and data logging
  • Detection of Overheight vehicles
  • Emulation of Induction Loop for incident management systems
  • Remote monitoring of rural carriageways for vehicle statistics and oversized vehicle detection
  • Traffic density monitoring for real-time applications
  • Monitoring closed roads, airstrips and tracks

TIRTL can be supplied in Portable or Fixed installation configurations.

The portable version is easily installed, aligned and made operational during the day or night. Its GPS and cellular communication antennas are mounted on the sun shield of the receiver unit.

In Fixed installations, TIRTL is installed off the main carriageway which eliminates closure of lanes and accidents involving field personnel. Off carriageway installation keeps it hidden from passing traffic, making it suitable for speed enforcement applications.

TIRTL's non-invasive measurement technique reduces installation time and costs, site maintenance costs and life time road repair costs.

A range of secondary enclosures are available to house permanently installed TIRTL units. Low profile enclosures are used where there is low camber across the road. A combination of low profile and higher profile enclosures are used where there is high camber.

Optional pole mounted GPS and cellular antennas and associated cables can be supplied where required.
